This year’s Prom promises to be an exciting one, according to its coordinators. Scheduled to be held at the Intercontinental Hotel on Saturday, the 21st of May, seniors can look forward to the dance for which they’ve been planning for so long.
“The senior class has been fundraising for Prom since their freshman year,” said Mr. Friedrich, the Senior Class Advisor. “It’s a pretty elaborate process… There’s a lot of planning that went into it.”
Senior Class President Hannah McIntyre is one of the students who has been organizing the event, and understands all the effort put into this one night.
“The past couple months the officers and I have been extremely busy,” she said, “working out a budget, discussing menus, selecting a DJ, [and] ordering decorations…to make sure this year’s prom is one everyone will truly remember.”
“I am thrilled to see the culmination of all the hard work [of] the Senior Class Officers,” said Mr. Friedrich.
Students will arrive at the Hotel from 6:30 to 7:00, ready for a night of fun, food, and dancing.
The dinner served will consist of three courses, “with a salad entrée and dessert,” Mr. Friedrich said.
Dancing will take place up till 11:00, with a break to crown the Prom King and Queen around 9:30 and optional photos taken from 7:00 to 9:00 by Ripcho Studios, according to Mr. Friedrich. The dance effectively concludes at 11:00, but the fun needn’t end there. Afterprom will be held at Westlake High School, for the first time since 2007, according to Mrs. McIntrye, the Parent President of the Senior Class.
“A tremendous amount of heart, dedication, passion, and hard work by a team of devoted senior parents has taken place since last July,” she said. “[We] have been working together to host a fun, safe, and exciting event for our sons, daughters, and their dates.”
Mrs. McIntyre did not divulge the theme of Afterprom, explaining that it is “a surprise,” as is tradition, and will not be revealed “until the seniors enter the event.”
She went on to extend to every senior, even those who choose not to attend the Prom dance, an invitation to Afterprom.
“There will be plenty of fun activities,” she said, “lots of good food and beverages, and loads of ways to spend the night with a date or enjoy the company of classmates.”
To Hannah, Prom and the events directly following it have more significance than any other dances previously attended by the Class of 2011: it is also one of the last chances for all of them to enjoy being together in one place.
“It’s hard to grasp the concept that the senior class only has a couple more weeks to spend together before graduating,” she said. “I sincerely hope that all of the Senior Class will attend Prom… A date is not necessary to have a great time, but the whole Class being together is. [I] hope to see you all there.”
To be able to take part in Prom, it is necessary that seniors purchase their tickets before the Dance.
“Tickets are 35 bucks,” Mr. Friedrich said, “[and] you can’t buy tickets at the door; you can only buy [them] presale.” They’ll be sold during lunch on April 18th through the 21th and from April 26th to the 29st.
All involved in the organization of the night assure seniors that it will be well worth the expense of the tickets.
“I am very excited to share this event with…an incredibly special group of seniors,” Mrs. McIntyre said.
“It’s going to be off the hook,” said Mr. Friedrich.
