Things I'm Lovin': Crazy Apocalyptic Dates, Christmas & Cameras

by Annie Yang

"Help! It's 11/11/11! At 11:11pm the world is going to end!" says the Stranger. And I'm here saying, "I'll see you at 11:12pm." Sure enough, life proceeds onwards like normal; no big apocalyptic events, falling meteors, ground-splitting earthquakes, or sparkling vampires. Oh wait, cross out that last one because Edward Cullen does sparkle like a glowing discoball in the sunlight. Anyway, as crazy as it seems, I actually love crazy apocalyptic dates such as 11/11/11 or 12/12/12. If you read a little online, you'd find out a whole ton of prophecies, histories, and stories predicting events on these dates. For example, there is a belief that 11/11/11 is special because the "Midwayers," our earthly 1,111 Spirit Guardians, are most active in helping people that day, possibly raising luck for everyone. Also, very interestingly enough, I found out that people actually attempt to give birth to babies on these dates. Yeah, that's right. They actually plan it out, meaning they'll have to conceive the child around February 11. Ridiculous? Possibly. I still think that all these dates are pretty cool, so I can't wait till next year of course. December 12th, 2012 will be an interesting date!

But, of course, nothing is more special than the 25th of December! Christmas, children! Christmas is coming to town! (Hopefully, snow will arrive earlier for a wonderful white Christmas. Cross your fingers!) Bring on the eggnog, fantastically warm fuzzy Christmas sweaters, Christmas trees and ornaments, presents, and a significant decline in your bank account money! Who cares though? Christmas is all about the cheer and huzzah. Christmas music has some of my most favorite songs such as Santa Baby, written by Joan Javits and famously performed by Eartha Kitt. People are also most happy during this holiday. So, I could seriously talk about Christmas for another whole twenty pages; I kid you not. Therefore, I'll save you kids some reading and just end this Christmas rant here.

But, I'm not done yet! Still here! Let's talk about looking through lens and seeing people for what they really are. Sounds philosophical correct? Correctomundo, ustedes! Cameras are an amazing piece of technology in which you are able to capture a wonderful moment and cherish it forever in the form of a photo. Just recently, I purchased a Canon Powershot SX150, and I'm extremely ready to go out and try it. I tried it out only a couple of times, and I found out that the zoom is incredibly good! I managed to zoom up really close to look at this woman who had her cute child in a stroller and was walking through the park! Not a creeper moment or anything...Anywho- cameras are amazing, and you kids should utilize them for capturing special moments such as "Mom's first time on the computer" or "Dad's frustration teaching me to drive during the winter!"

Alright then, these are the things I'm lovin' now, and I think you should be lovin' them, too. Stay cool cats!
