At-a-glance

When I stood and applauded for the graduating class of 2012 as they took their final stroll out of the OHS gymnasium during their graduation ceremony, the following thought rolled through my mind: HOLY FRIJOLES, I AM A SENIOR NOW.  I’m sure that I’m not the only member of the class of 2013 to be hit by this startling revelation, and of course that begs the question: what the heck do we do now?!

As they near the end of their high school education, I’m sure many people are wondering the same thing.  Some people wonder this in a state of excitement; they have waited three long years to become the top of the high school, and many are eagerly anticipating their senior parking passes, senior prom, and (in some cases) easy-breezy senior class schedules.  However, not everyone shares this eagerness to finish high school; indeed, some students are approaching their senior year with turning stomachs and stressed-out minds, a little worried about what comes after high school: that big, new beast everyone knows as college.  It’s always a scary thought to leave behind everything you know and you’re used to, to step into the unknown and the what-might-be.  However, I don’t think we need to be too terribly apprehensive.

If you attended school on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, which was formally known as Senior White Day, you may have noticed the message inscribed in sidewalk chalk outside of the lunchroom doors, “We Will Survive.”  The motto for the class of 2013 is a clever play on the motto of the class before ours, “2012—Taking the World with Us,” but it is also a great motto to have in general. Whatever senior year and all the years beyond throw at us, we know that in the end we will, in fact, survive.

So get excited, class of 2013, ‘cause we’re seniors now!
