High school brings many memories back for many people. It
brings back their youth, friends, and spectacular events during one of the milestones
of life. One of the famous events kids idealize and adults reminisce on is the
spring season of prom.
“Students should be super excited because the location is
bigger and better and with the theme being old Hollywood, (we added) a red
carpet and photographers so students can feel like a glamorous celebrity,” Jesenia
Harrison gushed about the April 21st event. However, they weren’t as
excited a month ago, panicking if this event would even be able to take place.
Whether you are a freshman or senior, you most likely heard
something about this year’s annual prom. It seems this year has caused drastic
talk for many here at Herron.
This year, because of the spacious new venue, the reputation
of successful fundraisers was put to the test. Fundraisers such as the Chili
Community Supper brought donors along to bring the budget for prom up to $500.
This may not seem like much a success, but compared to the unfortunate failure
of other fundraisers such as the Avon sale (involving the three students of
200+ participating) drew to disappointment.
By some miracle, however, it seems the junior and senior
classes got to have a happy ever after in the end.
The prom committee gladly held the event in the Fountain
Square ballroom as planned, and the overall cost initially agreed upon dropped
significantly, allowing them to pursue
prom as intended.
Prom King Peter Catlin and Prom Queen Erin Grimmet ended the
night with a shared dance with Prom Princess Paige Rawl and Prom Prince Nick
Roberts. However, the real stars of the night were the excited Mexico exchange
students who showed everyone up with their dance moves and crazy energy. Prom
was a great way to kick-off their Herron HS experience.
After all the rumors, money scares, and countless meetings,
the prom ended in success. The dance had
a great location, an energetic
DJ, and an overall great evening of dancing the night away to songs everyone
sang along too.
