For a highly anticipated week finale, pick Homecoming. For a fairy-tale night of fun, choose the Winters dance.

Juan Diego Catholic High School students will attend their Winters dance this Saturday. People who are attending are either attending with dates or in groups of other friends going stag.

“I don’t really care if I have a date,” senior Taylor Muzatko says.

Homecoming and Winters are two semi-formal dances. They are alike enough to be twins, yet have many differences to make them fraternal.

"Homecoming is the opening dance, which brings unity throughout the entire school,”  Juan Diego event planner and student advisor Mrs. Williams said.  Williams is at the top of the top when it comes to organizing these school social activities.

Homecoming is the dance that gets all the fame. There's an entire week dedicated to building enthusiasm for the Homecoming football game, with the dance acting as the finale. The week of Homecoming is full of events. The games, lunches, and spirit dress all tie in to the dance’s theme. Seniors are the lucky ones to pay for this shindig.

"Winters is a semi-formal dance that is put together by the junior class," Williams said. The budget is normally under 1200 dollars. However, with high attendance there are many proceeds. This year Williams has a goal of 500 students and guests.

The Winters dance is girls’ choice, meaning they get to ask a date. Most students have dates to this much faster than Homecoming, Williams says.

“I think it’s sick, like in a good way -- I don’t have to pay for anything,” freshman Harry Jones said. He was asked to Winters by another freshman, Brooke Zaelit.

Winters does not get the exciting full week of events, but the dance usually turns out to be almost as successful as Homecoming.
