The school year is back. Whether or not we want it to be is out of the question, but with school comes good things, such as extracurricular activities. The theater program has been strong since the schools inception and it has moved to the new school setting.
Theater has been around since the Greeks and the campus thespians are continuing that tradition with the performance of “1984”. This adaptation from the classic novel by George Orwell is a darker play for the students.
“I can see many similarities between the play and what’s happening now in real life,” junior and villain in the play, Derek Fults said. “It’s creepy.”
The play, dark as it may be, is also fun to many of the cast members. They seem to enjoy rehearsals as they joke with one another while getting every situation in the play worked out.
“I am having a boat load of fun,” sophomore Shea Frers said “It’s my first play so I am really excited.”
Theater in and of itself is very entertaining. The production company is working diligently to get this show on stage. They spend hours in the black box trying to get the steps and lines down. The end result should be something very special and moving.
“The play is very emotional and heartfelt and it should really move people,” Cate Madeley, the director of the play said.
The thespians have been working very diligently to get this play going. The lines are hard to memorize and the blocking is tough but they are trying their hardest to get the show in on the first weekend in November. Due to scheduling conflicts it had to be pushed back a week, but it will work out.
“We are in the hardest part of the play right now,” Fults said. “After this everything always gets easier.”
Should you go and see this play? That is up to you, but you will be missing out on a very good show if you don’t.
“Everyone who is anyone should come see this play,” Frers said.
