Carrying on yet another successful season, the Odyssey of the Mind “Superstition” team made its fifth appearance at the world competition in Ames, Iowa, last week.
“Every year, we just keep building and becoming stronger as a team, and I feel the same way for this year.” said senior Elijah Melanson, OM member of nine years.
At the competition, the team competed against 58 high school level teams from Charlotte to Hong Kong, China.
“I was really looking forward to competing at world’s,” junior Carson Fish said. “It was fun competing against people from all over the globe. At the competition, it’s all of the OM nerds from around the world, and they’re all so into it, so it’s just really fun and intense.”
This was Melanson’s fifth and final appearance at the world competition. He received two scholarships from the North Carolina and the National Odyssey of the Mind Associations. He will be trading in his thinking cap for a graduation cap and heading to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass., where he plans to study Guitar Performance.
“Elijah deserves this scholarship more than anyone,” junior Chelsey Fenyak said. “He has been so devoted since elementary school and we know he will go so far.”
