When customers buy their (RED) products, companies such as GAP, Motorola, Armani, Converse and Apple will give from $10 up to 50 percent of their profits to purchase AIDS drugs for mothers and children. Locally, students are participating in the campaign by buying items like red cell phones and iPods.

“I think that 50 percent is a high percentage of profit to go to the organization so even though the red iPod was $50 more I didn’t mind spending the money because half of it went to a great cause,” junior Jenette Mohr said.

According to a statement on Bono’s website, just two pills a day will bring someone who is at death’s door back to full health.

“Well, red is my favorite color so I wanted a red Motorola Razor anyway,” senior Trey Davenport said. “Learning that 50 percent of my money went to buy medicine for AIDS made me feel like I was helping out.”

There are still 4.3 million Africans without drugs, according to (PRODUCT) RED, which is why 100 percent of (RED) money is going directly to the Global Fund.

“My grandmother bought my red iPod for me,” junior Kaitlyn Hudgins said. “I didn’t tell her I wanted a red one but when I got it and found out where the money was going and that I was helping people affected by AIDS, I was glad that she picked the red one instead of any other color.”
