Softball season is fast approaching. With tryouts coming up on November 3, I set off to find out what Junior Erin Columbus has been doing to ensure her spot on this year's team. Last year, Columbus was a starter on the varsity team.
Columbus feels that the upcoming season will be a positive one, "I'm feeling pretty good about this upcoming season," Columbus said, "We have a good group of girls who will be trying out. If we play as well as we did last year, we could win the championship."
But, Columbus is not nervous about holding up to the standard set by last year's record as conference champions and second in the states. "I hope this is the year to bring the title home," Columbus said.
There is lots of preparation in the works though to make sure that the team starts off on a good foot. Columbus reported that she has been practicing all summer and into this school year to prepare for tryouts. "I play on a travel team" Columbus said.
According to Columbus, it is not always easy to prepare yourself, because it takes time and dedication, but it is important to remember what your abilities are and not to be nervous about trying out.
"The only way you can really prepare and be ready for tryouts is to play throughout the year and think to yourself, 'this isn't my first tryout.' I have done this before and I can do this again. So, to say the least, I'm anxious and excited for tryouts." Columbus said.
All of us here at Wildcat Tribune want to wish you ladies trying out good luck and we hope to see you bring that state championship home this year!
