Senior Zach Simms said the boys soccer team was living up to the goals it set for itself in the preseason. “We’re playing well, and we’ve cemented our place in the top 10 in the state,” Simms said.
The senior said the team was looking forward to having success in the state tournament later this month. “We can do some real damage if we keep our heads in it,” he said. He said the Titans can “play with any team in the state.”
Girls soccer
Sophomore Suzy Smith said to finish the season successfully, the girls varsity soccer squad must “stay positive” and “work together and really shoot for [their] goals as a team.”
She added that the team must concentrate on what must be done.
“[Another aspect for success is] staying focused on what is needed to be done in practices and games in order to be where we know we should,” Smith said.
Girls tennis
Senior Sammy Robb said some unusual suspects have stepped up on the girls varsity tennis team.
“A lot of the underclassmen have been stepping up -- more than the upperclassmen -- because there are only three seniors this year,” she said. “A lot of the girls who were on JV last year moved up in the ranks and now are playing varsity.”
Boys track
The boys track season so far has been a success, according to sophomore Sibit Thon.
“The season is going great, and it’s because of teammates and the coaching staff,” he said.
Thon said state will be a challenge, but the team will be prepared.
“With all the hard work we’ve been putting in, we will be ready,” the sophomore said.

In his first year as head track coach, Jerrid Johansen has “changed quite a bit,” because he is more of a short-distance coach, senior Gabi Jenkins said.
Coach Jeremy Haselhorst, who was head coach last season, now focuses on distance.
“Coach Haselhorst has more time to spend with distance runners,” Jenkins said.
She said Johansen offered a new perspective. “I really like him,” Jenkins said. “He really has a lot of new things to add.”
Boys golf
Junior Brian Hrbek said that even though the boys varsity golf team started ‘shakier’ than it would have liked, there could be some light at the end of the tunnel. “Golf is a marathon,” Hrbek said. “If everything doesn’t start off good, there is always time to make it better... I know that we have great potential, we just need to finish strong.”
