When the world is under attack by people from another planet, who are you going to call? The Avengers of course. The movie came out on May 4 and the theaters were packed.

The film takes place in New York for the most part and the plot is based on a group of superheroes called The Avengers. For those unfamiliar with the comics, The Avengers consist of Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johanson), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Nick Furry (Samuel L. Jackson). They are summoned together by an organization called SHEILD when the world was under attack by the evil God Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s adopted brother.

The actors have great chemistry, Downey Jr., Evans and Hemsworth don’t seem to be acting at all, but more like three brothers horsing around. An example is when they are fighting each other in the woods, not really meaning to do actual harm to one another, but just trying to confirm their suspicions of one another. Then after Captain America breaks it up they make up and start teasing one another again.

There is another scene where Black Widow is trying to get information out of Loki and thinking he hit a "soft spot" with her, ends up revealing his whole plan to her. One minute she was tearing up, the next she was back to normal.

The best part about the film is that it has a lot of humor. When all the superheroes are in the "planning room" of their headquarters planning their attack while insulting Loki. Thor asks for the heroes to respect the fact that Loki is his brother. Then Black Widow says, "He killed 80 people in two days." Thor responds with, "He’s adopted." Another hilarious scene is when Thor and The Hulk had just finished fighting off a lot of Loki’s army and they were standing right next to each other, and with Hulk so excited about fighting, he decides to punch anyone who stands around him, sending Thor flying. The producers did not overdo the humor at all. There is an equal amount of funny, dramatic, action, informational and affectionate scenes. Also, each superhero got the same number of scenes. It is refreshing that there was no favored superhero by the producers. The movie had everything.

Also, the special effects with the film are outstanding! All of New York looks like it has been destroyed; countless skyscrapers and Grand Central Station appear demolished. Another special effect is watching The Hulk fly off buildings using his incredible strength. He may be animated, yet he looks so real. Half of the movie takes place in a gigantic airplane in the sky above New York. The producers really make it seem like that the airplane is actually flying and people weren’t just watching a green screen projection. The stunts the actors did are crazy too. One of the best stunts is when Iron Man has to fall down all the way from the sky then get caught by the Hulk, who brings him to the ground.

But the movie is not just about fighting the bad guy or making jokes about teammates. It shows that working alone people are not very strong, however a group of people working together become a lot stronger and can solve any problem thrown their way. Also, stay for a quick scene after all the credits are done, you don’t want to miss it.
