“The Woman In Black,” released Feb. 3, is a mixture of suspense and thriller, but many people might consider it to be horror with all the parts that make you scream. The movie is about a lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), who lives with his 4 year old son and his nanny. His wife died giving birth to their son and not having that closure causes Arthur to have visions of her as though she was still there.
The movie starts of with a peculiar, striking scene in which the young girls are having a tea party with their dolls. Suddenly they get a blank facial expression, stand up, and walk over to the windows and all together jump out and commit suicide. I guess you could say those girls were really cuckoo for cocoa puffs.
After that happens we learn that Arthur is assigned to handle the estate of the Marsh house. When he arrives to the town the people there begin to act very strange and seem terrified. When he arrives at the place he is supposed to be staying the guy at front desk seemed to be irritated with his presence and says he is not booked, but then a nice lady comes along and offers him the attic, the same place which the girls jumped from in the beginning.
It is also hard not wanting to shout for Daniel Radcliffe to pull out a wand, forgetting you are not watching Harry Potter. That was the only part I struggled with was seeing him as a different character. However, he did an amazing job fulfilling his role and making it all seem real because once you got used to seeing him as someone else you could really appreciate his acting more. For everyone that has grown up watching the Harry Potter movies, such as myself, I think it will always be a bit hard to watch him in other movies playing the role of someone else. Even though it was hard to see Daniel playing someone else his acting was still very good, along with all the other characters, which for me made the movie come together perfectly and suck you into the story.
This movie did a really good job at jumping people and making it feel as though their heart stops for a moment. Things get quiet and mysterious for a moment, then suddenly something jumps out and the sound blows into your ears making it almost impossible not to scream. This movie also does a good job at keeping you guessing what is going to happen next.
The Woman In Black is a movie that I want to see over and over again just to get that thrill of the suspense and horror. The whole story of the revenge of Jenette is cruel, but addicting to watch. The ending is one that leaves you with just the question of why, but also with a sense of satisfaction and happiness because in a twisted way, it’s almost nice.
This movie is one I highly recommend seeing. It had people in the theater screaming with fright at the freaky things happening. The movie had me hooked from beginning straight to the end. You want to look away but it feels as though your body wont let you because you don’t want to miss a single part. Just look up the trailer for it and get the shiver down your spine that makes you want to see more. Head down to the movie theater and see the “Woman In Black.” You won’t regret it.
