World of Dance Los Angeles, known as WOD LA to us dancers, is the day that many LA dancers train vigorously for and look forward to throughout the year. For those of us who don’t know about it, WOD is an international urban competition that tours in about 14 major markets across the globe.

The top dancers from almost everywhere around the world come together, this year at the Los Angeles Convention Center, to participate in this competition. Combining the experience of art forms such as dance, clothing, art, fashion and music, it provides endless entertainment for all to enjoy.

Fortunately for me, my dance crew 3-23 AREA KIDZ got a chance to compete with all of the other amazing dancers, both professional and non professional, in front of a celebrity panel of judges. Among these judges was Chachi Gonzales, a member of I.aM.mE dance crew, the season six winners of the hit MTV show America’s Best Dance Crew. Luckily for my team, we ended up winning first place as well as best theme after winning second in the year before.

Taking second was Emanon dance crew, with A.P.T. dance crew winning third in the junior division. Following with the upper division, GRV took home first place, with AOP taking home second and Beta 010 taking home third. It is safe to say that WOD is the biggest urban dance competition of today.

With styles such as Hip Hop, locking, breaking, popping, tutting, krumping, choreography, and so much more, it’s understandable why this competition has such a big reputation and mind blowing performances every year from some of the best of the best. WOD is like any dancer’s dream.

It’s a place for you to express your self in an environment of being praised for your craft rather than being judged, or called an outsider because you’d rather show off your moves than to pick up a book and read about being a lawyer and things of that sort. To most, this is the one time a year for dancers to prove themselves.

The talent, dedication, and inspiration literally fly through the roof and you can immediately feel it as soon as you walk through the door.

For anyone who is interested in having a good time, checking out the latest dance fashion, or just witnessing our generation’s youth contributing to the world by doing something productive and doing what they love, I would strongly suggest and recommend attending next year.
