To condition or not to condition, that is the question. - clip art
Is hair included whilst making a first impression? Hair could definitely be included in such thing for it expresses neatness, style, and discipline. Female Students are expected to care, and praise for their hair, not only because of their gender, but also because of style. Therefore, the female students use conditioner as a requirement to look good.
But what about the male students at JM. Are they expect not to care about their hair or to keep their hair short to avoid the duties of keeping good, healthy hair?
Thirty surveys were handed out to thirty random male JM students ( Freshman to Seniors) during the first lunch wave. According to results, only seven male students out of thirty do not use conditioner. The other twenty-three students openly admitted they used conditioner, and regularly.
The survey contained three questions; “Do you use conditioner?”, “What kind of conditioner do you use?” and Why do you use conditioner?”. All three questions were answered seriously by students.
The plurality of the male students at JM according to the survey use Axe Conditioner[CJ1] . The reason behind the choice could be for many reasons, but the reason that comes to mind is to attract the female JM students.
Not only is Axe very popular among young males, but it also promotes itself as a product that attracts women. There is a possibility that male JM students believe the smell of their conditioning product could attract the female student body.
Also, even though more than half surveys taken indicate that the reason to the use of conditioner is because it makes hair softer, a good 40% of the survey pointed out that they also use it to look “sexy” , “good” and because “the ladies love it”.
Could it be that the male student body only uses conditioner as a way to increase their chance with the ladies, and not for the sake of self-neatness or style? Think of this next time you open a bottle of conditioner.
The female student body, on the other hand, thinks differently of the smell of Axe. A part of the female student body that remains anonymous said “I don’t like the smell of Axe, I think its smells gross. The majority of my friends that I know also think it smells bad”.
That being said, others seem to think differently. “I like it (the smell of Axe)”, said student Sarah Nuebert “It’s endearing!”.
