After winning districts last year the boys soccer set themselves the difficult goal of becoming district champs once again.

The team knew that this year was going to be harder compared to last season.

“Last year the team had more experienced upperclassman, this year we had a lot of new faces,” senior captain Alex Maldonado said.

The Terriers had 13 seniors last year, whereas this season the team mainly consisted of underclassman, a few juniors and only four seniors.

The team had to put in a lot of hard work to compensate for the loss of the experienced players.

“We started the season really well with a lot of wins,” senior Bryan Torres said. “We worked hard at practice in the heat and rain but it was what we had to do.”

It was an overall good year for the boys, even after a few problems during the middle of the season when there had been problems with some of the players that had affected the team.

“Despite all of the problems we had, the team still managed to hold the strong bond every team should have in order to be successful so that’s why I say the season ended very well,” Torres said.

“The best game was against Alonso, I mean we still lost but we played so good that we felt like a team that can go all the way,” said junior teammate Junior Acosta.

The team was able to make it to the district semifinals where they lost to Jesuit 4-0.

“Jesuit is a really good team and I respect them,” Acosta said.

Overall the team felt that they accomplished their goals.

“We wanted to beat higher ranked teams and to make it to the playoffs,” Maldonado said. “We accomplished both those goals.”
