Hello, gamers! Mike here again, bringing you all the latest news from the gaming world. This past month has been abuzz with news stories and press events most namely the Tokyo Game Show and Microsoft’s X05 Event.

On September 16th, the Tokyo Game Show was held in Japan. The big three, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, all showed up for this massive event.

The largest story, by far, was the unveiling of the Revolution’s controller. The controller looks exactly like a remote control as you can see (see insert). Nintendo has specifically designed the controller so people that have never played video games can play them. Shortly after the announcement, gamers across the web were stunned. After the news sank in, people started to realize how revolutionary this controller is. At the Tokyo Game Show, developers were literally running around the show shouting about how cool it is. Nintendo promised a revolution, and they certainly delivered.

Besides Nintendo’s surprise announcement, Sony was on hand to show a little more of the PS3. One of the most impressive announcements was an eight minute trailer of Metal Gear Solid 4. The trailer starts with a small tease that MGS4 would actually be a first person shooter; that quickly ends when Solid Snake takes down the soldier behind the gun. Snake, however, looks very different; in this new game Snake is an old man! No jokes. The rest of the trailer shows Snake sneaking through the streets of a bombed-out city. The game looks very exciting, and the developer Hideo Kojima confirmed that the trailer was showing the graphic power of the PS3.

Recently, on October 4th to the 5th, Microsoft held its annual X05 party in Europe. The event saw Microsoft showing off many of its games in their final form. One of the most visually impressive games shown was Epic Game’s Gears of War. The game is running on the unreal engine 3, and is looking better every time it’s shown.

While movies are not the subject of my column, Microsoft also announced that Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson would be the executive producer on the Halo movie, which is currently due for a summer 2007 release.

In PC news, Graphics maker ATI is releasing a new line of cards called the X1800 series. The new cards are supposedly even more powerful than NVIDIA’s recently released Geforce 7800. The cards price will vary depending on the model; low end cards will be as low as $79 while high end cards will be as high as $549.

In the past week, Ubisoft released Far Cry: Instincts for the Xbox. Instincts is a port of the PC game Far Cry, which was one of 2004’s blockbuster shooters. The game’s story follows Jack Carver as he attempts to fight his way off of a tropical island crawling with mercenaries. The game also supports multiplayer for up to 16 players over Xbox Live and system link. The original Far Cry was excellent because of its story which many regarded as the best single player experience since Half Life. Critics are also praising this new version of the game as “one of the Xbox’s best shooters. It is rated M and costs $50, look for it in stores.

Also coming up in October is Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PSP. The new Grand Theft Auto takes place in Liberty City and tells the story of Tony Cipriani’s rise to power through the mafia. It is also the first GTA to have multiplayer. The PSP will support 8 players in over six multiplayer modes. It will be rated M, like the past GTA games, and will retail for $50. Look for it on the 25th of October.

If you are not an owner of the systems I recommended games for, check out my Game of the Month feature below the article.

The next generation of consoles is fast approaching. Get ready for November, when the Xbox 360 will be launched, it is surely going to rock. Mike out.
