I know I’m not the only person coming back to school wondering where all the colorful lockers disappeared to over the summer. When I was a freshman the A, B, and C house concept is what saved me from being completely lost in between classes. Now with all the lockers painted entirely white, there’s no specific way to decipher which direction you’re heading. Returning students can’t really see a positive aspect of getting rid of the houses.
“Absolutely flawed,” said FHS junior Jake Klein who described the new change. Jake also went on to say, “I liked the color coated lockers because my location was corresponding with where I was at”.
It’s not just affecting the students, but the staff as well.
“Upperclassmen have to try even harder this year to help out the freshmen,” said economics teacher Mrs. Barla.
Although we can’t understand a logical reason for the removal of the houses, a few ideas have been mentioned. For starters, the locker numbers are coinciding with the beginning of the classroom numbers. The doors have been numbered more accurately in case of an emergency. This new layout of the school will make things run more smoothly.
“I liked how they operated with small lockers, but it use to look older. Now it looks newer,” said Senior Link Crew Leader Carson Beauchaine.
Even a Link Crew Leader, someone who has been trained to help out the freshmen agrees the new change will be difficult to get used to. However, he did mention an optimistic point of view; the white lockers do make the hallways look more modern.
All we can hope for now is that we eventually get used to the new modern lockers and won’t stay this confused for long.
