When I was younger, everything seemed to move at slow motion. Christmas always felt impossibly far away, never mind the end of the school year. Now, however, here I am, at the start of my senior year of high school. It feels like I blinked and all the time vanished into the past already. Just yesterday I was a scared, tiny freshmen not knowing where any classes were. Now I am a senior, being able to walk the halls blindfolded and know where I am at any moment.
I am not embarrassed to admit that I, like many of my fellow classmates, wish to turn back time and be children again, when the biggest issue one had to deal with was what crayon should be used to color in the picture. Even turning into Peter Pan right now does not seem like a bad idea, freezing ourselves as teenagers forever. Unfortunately either of those options is impossible and, sadly, time must go on.
Time does not always have to be an enemy, however. Since everyone says that time flies when one is having fun, it must mean that this year will be a mix of taking forever and going by in a blink. As a senior, there is always something to do; whether it is fun, or so stressful that I should start to take up yoga just to relax a bit. Homework, papers, hanging out with friends, reminiscing about our childhoods, standardized tests, senior project, portfolios, visiting colleges, applying to colleges, getting rejected, getting accepted, deciding where to go, senior prom, senior trip, senior night and much more are in store this year. Just reading that list exhausts me, but I know senior year is one that will be filled with fun, laughter, and memories that will last forever.
This is my, and the rest of my 2012 class’s, last year in North Providence High School. The time has come to stop, smell the roses, and enjoy our last year of high school before all of us head our separate ways. Even the classes below us should enjoy their time here, because before they know it, they will be in the exact same position as we are. The journey of this new school year will be a roller coaster, with so many corkscrews some are bound to get sick; however, no matter how many twists and turns all of us take, I know the ride will be great.
