Annual Quince Orchard High School SGA elections were held on April 18 as students voted to determine who would take over the ten positions that will be vacated at the end of this school year.

The new SGA President will be Laurel Czajkowski, 1st Vice President will be Andrew Kuhn, 2nd Vice President Alyse Feldman, 3rd Vice President Beverly Hart, Corresponding Secretary Amy Frieder, Secretary of Technology Hannah Bueler, Parliamentarian Kevin Roshdieh, Treasurer Sunaina Mehra, Recording Secretary Chinenye Monde, and Historian Surbhi Kapoor.

“I was so happy to win,” said newly elected Historian Kapoor. “I was eager to get started.”

Many of the candidates ran uncontested this year, although they weren’t guaranteed the victory. Uncontested candidates still needed 50% of the vote to win the position. Many of the candidates are not new to the SGA. Monde, in her third year in the QO SGA, was elated with her latest win.

“To be voted into the SGA is more of an honor than many people may think. Having students believe you would be well suited to represent them is an honor in itself,” she said.

In the last issue of The Prowler, staffers polled a representative sample of the student body, on the issue of what quality they thought is most desirable in an SGA candidate. Only six percent said they thought being popular was the most important quality.

“I know there are a lot of students and adults who feel that it is only a ‘popularity contest,’ and that is understandable,” said Monde. “But, the majority of us run for SGA because we see things that could be improved.”
