The Hendersonville Commando Varsity Soccer team had two crucial District games in the week, starting off with rival Station Camp on Tuesday and finishing with Lebanon High School on Friday night.
STATION CAMP: In front of a packed home crowd, the Commandos took the pitch against rival Station Camp. HHS started fast, gaining the advantage in scoring chances, but were denied by Bison keeper Austin Kalil. Then, with 13 minutes to play in the first half, Bison midfielder Cameron Hall put his team on the board first, making the score going into the half, Station Camp 1 – Hendersonville 0.
With the second half starting back up, Hendersonville pressed the Bison backline against the wall, but couldn't capitalize. Then Commando senior Richmond Taylor found room just outside of the Bison 18 yard box, and put the ball in the back of the net with just 3 minutes gone in the second half. That is where the rout ensued. Freshman Bryce DeGuira added two goals in a row (4” from R. Taylor, 23” from R. Zacharias) to give the Commandos a 3-1 lead. Senior Rodrick Zacharias, who had one assist, added the insurance goal with just over 10” to play by picking up his own rebound and finishing it into the back of the net. The Commandos overcame the slow half to pick up the win, 4-1.
LEBANON: The Commandos hosted district foe Lebanon on Friday night hoping to play the way they did in the second half against Station Camp. They did just that by coming out of the gate firing from all cylinders, getting chance after chance at the Blue Devils goal. But the goal would seem to never come for HHS, until with 15 minutes to play in the first half, when sophomore Randy Reichenberger sent his shot to the back left of the Lebanon goal. Rodrick Zacharias would add the assist. Zacharias would be done yet, though, adding a goal of his own from Bryce DeGuira just 9 minutes later. Then, the barrage started. Ryan Odum drew a free kick from around 25 yards out. He lined his shot up and curled it over the Blue Devil keeper for a 3-0 lead. Seconds later, freshman forward Bryce DeGuira added to his stellar season with a goal of his own (assisted by R. Odum). Then, deep in the half, Caleb Brown showed his athleticism on a Commando corner kick by jumping nearly his whole body to the crossbar’s level to connect his header to the back of the goal. At the half, HHS led convincingly 5-0.
The start of the second half was no different. Reichenberger added his second goal of the night just 4 minutes in. Bryce DeGuira would finish the scoring off with 32 minutes to go for his second goal as well. The Commandos made it 7-0 before falling back and playing for possession the rest of the night.
Hendersonville (6-4, 4-0) remains perfect in District play and will play at Mt. Juliet Tuesday night
