Struggling through an Ohio winter can lead to a frostbitten and gloomy attitude; but seeing as spring has landed in Central Ohio, many Hayes students are quick to celebrate the upcoming summer. For some, it is their last before moving away from home; for others it means only a few short more years at Hayes. Either way, many plan to rejoice this accomplishment with a planned vacation, either with friends or family, to a place, not always warmer, but certainly more unfamiliar than Delaware.
Ana Wallace, senior at Hayes, traveled to Colorado last summer on an archeology dig and has many plans to travel this summer.
“[I’m planning to travel with] my mother to New York and Vermont, as one last vacation together before I’m off to college,” said Wallace.
Traveling on vacation can mean many things for many different people, either visiting family or getting away from them; it usually is a stress free time for most people.
In 2006 the most traveled destination was the Dominican Republic, for the array of resorts and variety of activity available to everyone, no matter what age (Nytimes.com).
If looking to stay inside the country, other popular destinations tend to be Key West, Florida; Myrtle Beach/ Hilton Head, South Carolina; and Las Vegas, Nevada (300destinations.com). If looking for a vacation on a tight budget, airlines such as Sky Bus offer extra low airfares as well as travel sites such as Travelocity.com, and Expedia.com.
For some, it does not matter where one travels, but ultimately the memories that are made while there.
“[My mother and I] have made this trip about five times. We hike, shop, fish, go boating, and relax!” said Wallace.
Whatever the plans are, many will travel this summer, from across the state to around the globe, it will be an exciting summer for all those with travel plans.
