With the expectations of a new school year and the completion of a new building, we were all faced with an unexpected challenge this summer. Whereas some high school experiences become defining moments of our high school years, the unexpected death of our beloved counselor has become one of those bad but nonetheless defining moments.
This school has undergone many changes in the last four years, from the retirement of some of our finest teachers, the renovation of our high school, and now the death of our dearfriend.
The journalism class would like to dedicate our first issue to the late Mike D. Simila. We would like to remember Mike Simila not only as a good high school counselor, but also a role model and friend. We hope that for years to come that people will recognize the impact this man has had in our community. He will never be forgotten. May his free spirit, compassion, and his search for the truth forever be present in our community and evident in the voice of this paper.
