One of the largest fall play casts performed Alice in Wonderland last weekend.

“Practicing for the play was a blast,” junior Brianna Bly said. “We put a lot of time in for the show, but it was all worth it in the end.”

Senior Justine Turback was the “off with their heads” obsessed Queen of Hearts. Junior Bridget Thelen was the White Queen who said, “Jam yesterday and jam tomorrow, but never jam today.”

In the beginning, Alice (sophomore Nora Lueth) is playing with her sister when she sees a big, talking rabbit (sophomore Zachary Nelson). She follows the rabbit and falls into his hole where she meets the Cheshire Cat (junior Melissa Johnston). The Cheshire Cat guides Alice through Wonderland.

“Being the Cheshire Cat is a lot different than being a person,” Johnston said. “I was really challenged with something new.”

Along the way Alice meets the boisterous Duchess (Bly) and the pepper-loving cook (junior Mariah Greenhoff). She has a never-ending tea party with the Mad Hatter (senior Matt Thompson) and the sleepy Mouse (freshman Clarissa Peter). She also meets the smoking Caterpillar (senior Dan Nelson), the hippety-hopping dodo bird (freshman Katie Redford) and the crying Mock Turtle (junior Cara Brown).

After a long journey through Wonderland, Alice meets the Queen of Hearts and plays croquet. There she is accused of eating the cherry tarts and is put on trial and wins.

Eventually, Alice awakes while her mother calls her and her sister in for tarts.

The directors were Melanie Sittig and Michelle Stemwedel.
