The 83rd Wyoming State FFA Convention was held the week of April 7th – 10th, 2010 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Twenty-five members from the Powell-Shoshone FFA Chapter attended and competitors participated in events ranging from Agriculture Mechanics on Wednesday to Horse Judging, Creed Speaking, Livestock Judging, and Parliamentary Procedure. In addition, Powell’s chapter was recognized for its outstanding achievements as a chapter over the past year, thus earning a gold chapter degree on the state level.
Each year a chapter organizes and submits a National Chapter Application to the Wyoming State FFA Association. Based on community development, chapter development, and student development, chapters are granted either a gold, silver, or bronze award according to their achievements. The Powell-Shoshone FFA Chapter submitted their application and because of their outstanding involvement and accomplishments, was granted the gold chapter degree, quite a phenomenal honor.
Participation in each of the Career Development Education (CDE) areas was a great learning experience for all individuals involved. Horse Judging had done exceptionally well at all previous competitions placing first as a team; however, at state they were able to walk away with a seventh place finish considering the increased number of competitors.
As all are surely aware, this was Ms. Lacy Bangert’s last state convention with the Powell-Shoshone FFA Chapter. Although she will be greatly missed for her contribution to Powell’s Agriculture program and impact on students, Powell is sure to thrive in the future based on their willingness to learn and passion for the program. Bangert contributed to the program by inspiring members to partake in exceptional activities that in turn gave the chapter a successful run at the gold in the national chapter application. Her drive to make the program better and enthusiasm will only ensure that students are motivated to welcome a new advisor and to work toward continued success in this long-standing tradition at Powell High School.
