Is it possible for two people to maintain a relationship in the 21st century? With all the social networks, television shows, and random technology, how can true love really exist? People are so desperate to find love that they are willing to log themselves on to a social network and stalk whoever they can find on the web.
Another example is the television shows people have tuned in to watch on VH1 or MTV. I will admit they happen to be a guilty pleasure of mine because I love watching the pity and desperation of these people! Call me a cynic, but it’s pretty hilarious! Okay I will admit I have been caught in the act of desperation for love and yeah, I might be contradicting myself but that’s all love is. You have some people that say "Wait for love and you can’t force something" but then you have other people saying "You’ve got to put yourself out there and you’ve got to want love." It’s rather confusing. So what is a person to do in this day and age? It’s not like the Shakespearean age where you take one glance at a person and you know they’re the one. Or lovers writing letters to one another and they ride out into the sunset on a white horse. Love back then was about fairytale endings and sneaking out into gardens and running away to places with your special someone. Love has changed. People rush into relationships and say "I love you" within the first couple days of dating. I just can’t see how that’s possible. Love isn’t like the songs you listen to, the poems you read or the movies you watch. They are there to set you up for disappointment, because for every good thing comes a bad thing.
Love in the 21st century is about desperation, money, divorcing and maybe getting married to a hotter and younger person. Why do we need love in the first place? Why is it that we can be so against love yet we can’t help but yearn for it? I guess what I’m trying to say is that love doesn’t come easy and it’s not all bad. I mean there is the love you have for those that you are close to. Don’t get me wrong; although I don’t seem like it, I am a believer of love. Maybe it’s because I haven’t found that someone or maybe I’m afraid to get hurt but one thing I do know, love is confusing.
