Since the beginning of government, officers and powerful positions, our rulers have been trying to hide, censor, and destroy the information that does not benefit their beliefs and even at times their reputation. Although we are made to think that we are in a free country, this isn't true in many cases. According to the first amendment, we have the right to freedom of speech. But are we really allowed to speak our mind, our own opinions?
Many students at schools are ignored or even banned from saying how they feel whenever a reputation is at risk. What I have been able to experience as a low income student is that our word is not meaningful to authority. In order to be heard, we usually have to organize and group together to be recognized as actual people with actual voices.
Some officers in power censor what is not convenient to their personal image and only care about themselves. They don’t let us express ourselves or speak the truth. For us to overcome this unfair treatment we have to speak up and unite when these situations occur to make a difference and be heard!
