It may sound like a joke, but it really isn't. A young man named Sho Yano began reading at the age of 2, and writing at the age of 3. He began to compose music at the age of 5 as well. Sounds ridiculously impossible, but this young man, at the age of 21, is about to become the youngest student EVER to be awarded an M.D. by the University of Chicago. Sho Yano will be graduating this week from the Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, where he will also receive a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and cell biology. Yano began college at age 9, and entered medical school 3 years later. The university made some accommodations because of his age, but he worked hard to silence those who had questioned his developmental aptitude.
Sho Yano is also an accomplished pianist and has a black belt in tae kwon do. Not only is he smart, but he can kick butt, too! He is not the only one challenging himself, however. The Huffington Post reports that his sister Sayuri is also a prodigy, and Sho's closest confidante. She received her bachelor's degree in biology from Roosevelt University in 2010. She is now 15 years old and studying at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
The accomplishments of these two remarkable students set a good example of how to work hard in school. As Sho states, "I am living my dream." Congratulations to Sho!
