When it’s time for the Ultimate Frisbee team to practice or compete, you see not only discs flying everywhere, but people falling flat on their faces and landing in the mud.
According to the Ultimate Players Association’s Web site, Ultimate Frisbee is a “player defined and controlled non-contact team sport played with a flying disc on a playing surface with end zones in which all actions are governed by the ‘Spirit of the Game’.”
Ultimate Frisbee enthusiasts work to improve aim and skill.
“We practice every Wednesday and Friday,” junior Colton Doll said.
The practices, which are technically the games, take place at Tom Brown Park. Usually 10 to 15 people show up.
Ultimate Frisbee is a combination of soccer and football. In this sport, there are multiple moves used to make a touchdown or simply to pass.
“My favorite move I guess would be the backhand throw,” Doll said.
The different positions in Ultimate Frisbee pretty much explain what the players are supposed to do.
“I play on the defense,” said Doll, who is also team captain.
A game can be funny to watch because “someone always ends up hitting poles with their faces,” Doll said.
