After over a decade of teaching, family and consumer science teacher Gail Padden is hanging up her hat. Padden has been here since the doors opened and worked at Lawrence High for four years before.
Although she went into college clueless of her major, Padden was inspired by former teachers and a ‘great’ K-state counselor to get into the teaching field.
Since then, Padden has become a treasured part of the school, and her ability to bond and connect with students has made her an integral part of the Free State community.
“Mrs. Padden is one of the most generous and kind people I know,” said art teacher Laurie McLane – Higginson. “Her students just love her…We are really going to miss her grace and calming presence. She is a wonderful teacher.”
Padden says she will never forget the ties she has made and appreciates e-mails she receives from former students. Padden is also thankful for always having “wonderful colleagues to work with”.
Even though she is retiring, Padden may not stray far away. She says she has considered substitute teaching along with other things and Free State is at the top of the list.
However Padden says there is nothing like having her own classroom to work in.
Although Padden has mixed feelings about retiring, she is excited to explore new possibilities and hobbies with her free time.
