Thursday, April 19th was a day filled with differing cultural experiences as World Literature Day took place at Centennial Park. After reading multiple books, stories, and
poems that express not only differing types of literature but also diverse
cultures, the seniors then got to experience these cultures they had studied first hand. Each individual year varies in its own unique way as each
senior class experiences something different year by year. This year the class
of ’12 got to listen as a representative of the Nashville International Center
of Empowerment, also known as NICE, told her story of how she and her family
made it to the U.S. They then listened and learned how to play many percussion
instruments through the instruction of Brazilian drum performers. For lunch the
seniors enjoyed a Greek meal consisting of foods varying from pita bread to
lamb, all the way to baklava. Once they were full and had a small bit of down
time to lie out in the warm grass or play Frisbee, the seniors then got to test
out their dancing skills as a Salsa instructor began dancing with their English
teacher, Ms. McCain. It was a memorable experience, easily enjoyed by all as
the students finished out the day salsa dancing to the Brazilian drums before
loading back onto the bus.
