On September 11th, 2001
our country was shaken with fear through acts of Islamic terror. Ever since
this unforgettable day, our soldiers have been fighting hard on the front lines
in Afghanistan and Iraq.
According to September11news.com,
it is known that 19 Islamic hijackers took control of four commercial airplanes
headed to Los Angeles and San Francisco from Boston, Newark, and Washington
D.C. At 7:58 A.M. United Airlines Flight 175 departed from Boston for L.A.
carrying 56 passengers. It was hijacked shortly after take off and diverted
straight for New York City. At 7:59 A.M. American Airlines Flight 11 departs
Boston for L.A. carrying 81 passengers. It to is also hijacked shortly after
takeoff and diverted to New York City. At 8:01A.M. United Airlines Flight 93
(the flight that fought back) carrying 38 passengers leaves Newark, N.J., for
San Francisco. At 8:10 A.M. American Airlines flight 77 departs Washington D.C.
for Los Angeles holding 58 passengers. It is hijacked after take off and
diverted back to D.C. At 8:46 A.M. all hell breaks lose and American Airlines
Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At 9:03 A.M.
United Flight 175 slams into the South Tower. At 9:45 A.M. American Airlines
flight 77 hits the Pentagon. At 10:05 A.M. the South Tower collapses. At 10:28
A.M. the North Tower falls and United Flight 93 crashes in a secreted area in
Pennsylvania. The death toll was huge and 2,997 Americans lost their lives. To this day I still haven’t forgotten all the people that lost
their lives. I remember watching the horror on television when I was only in
third grade, but the date will haunt my memory for the rest of my life.
On September 20th 2001
President George W. Bush delivered a speech to America that rammed the support
for “The War on Terror” which would eventually lead to wars in Afghanistan and
Iraq. Today these wars are still raging on and our soldier’s charisma is
dwindling. According to CNN, since October 2001 there have been 7,138
casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq through 2010 (not including 2011). With the death toll increasing, we as Americans need to show
more support for our troops. There is a new organization called "Red Shirt
Fridays" where all you simply need to do is where a red t-shirt on Friday.
There slogan “They bleed Red, so we Wear Red” They have many true promotional
stories that helped jumpstart their campaign.
The mission of Red Shirt Friday’s is to show support for our
servicemen and women; they are not a political organization. They do not care
whether or not you support the war. They only care about making the support of
our troops known to our fellow Americans and the world. They are a silent
majority that does not wish to remain silent anymore. They will let our troops
know we care about their sacrifice and that they will not forget them by
wearing red on every Friday. If you wish to show support for our troops then
please wear red every Friday that you possibly can. Tell your friends about
this great epidemic spreading across our country. If you need more information
feel free to visit www.redshirtfridays.org.
