The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event sponsered and run by the Steele Med Tech and Law & Government classes was an opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes involving sexualviolence.

You know that saying where “You cannot understand a person unless you have walked a mile in their shoes?”

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes specifically asks men to walk in women’s heels for a mile to understand what they go through. The heels are hard to walk in but it's fun and exciting to watch, the cause is also worthy of supporting.

The program was held during lunch. The men, and boys of Steele signed up to support the Steele women, including teachers.

Mrs. Haney, Med Tech teacher, helped organize the event along with her med tech students and the law and government class. Together they got enough shoe sizes to fit the men here at Steele along with getting donations to give the students pizza after their mile walk.

The women stood aside and cheered on the men during the walk, the men stood proud having fun walking a mile in the shoes along with it being a good cause to support, raising awareness of sexual assault.

The men had a hard time finding a pair of shoes that fit their giant feet. Not only that, but many needed foot massages afterwards.

“The heels hurt my feet but was not that bad to walk in,” says Johnny Chambers.

Zak Borer said, “I would do [the walk] again.”

Many have said that they would do the walk again if given the chance because it was such a worthy cause to support.

The walk was fun and entertaining to the men and women, whether participating or watching. The walk stood for the assault women go through from time to time.

The cause showed support for the women going through suffrage and the men walking in it showed they cared for those women.

“I understand why I did [the walk] and it helped spread [sexual assault] awareness,” says Ian Porter.

After the walk and the pizza the men of Steele returned to their classes proud and full of understanding of women and the assault awareness week that was held here at Steele.
