Jepsen age 26 was unknown in the U.S until February. She became know when Justin Bieber started tweeting about her song “call me maybe”. Justin Bieber and his manger  signed Carly to Braun’s Schoolboy Records and Interscope Records. The song “Call me maybe” was a hit on iTunes Singles charts, the song is now in the top 10 on the chart. One way the song rised so quickly was because a video that Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale and many other artist shot of themselves lip-synching and dancing to the song. They posted the video on YouTube where the video got 19 million views. YouTube inspired many fans to post it on their own homemade videos in respnse to the video. Carly’s story begins in British Colmbia. Carly grew up the daughter of educator and music lovers. Carly started by joining the musical theater in high school, she stared in the musicals of Annie, The Wiz, and Grease. Carly went on and attended the Candadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria. After Carly graduated at age 17 Carly got her first Guitar. Carly thought she might want to be a school teacher because her parents were in the school system. But that didnt work eventually singing her own songs won out. While Carly was working as a pastry chef’s assistant Carly and her friends came up with the idea to have a open-mic night, were Carly performend.Carly’s highschool music teacher encourged her to try out for Candian Idol. Carly placed third on Canadian Idol. Carly won of the judges and audinces with her rich and distinctive voice. Carly’s popularity from Canadian Idol led her to a recording contract with Canada’s 604 Records. The Canadas’s 604 Records released her debut album Tug of War in August 2008. That album won Carly a Candian Radio Music Award for Song of the Year. She was also nominated for Juno Awards for New Artist and Songwriter of the Year. Carly and her music is becoming more and more popular all over the U.S and other places.
