Due to many unforeseen circumstances, El Camino’s annual Junior Prom will no longer be held at the Westin Hotel on Saturday, April 21, 2007. The new and hopefully final date is scheduled for August 17, 2009 in the big gym.

According to Junior Class Advisor Demian Martens, “The Westin Hotel accidentally booked a meatball-lovers convention on the same day as our prom, and they won’t have another available date for a long time”. The class also debated over combining this years’ junior prom and senior ball, but opposition from both classes struck down the idea.

The prom was going to be scheduled for this summer in the big gym. However, due to the polishing of the gym floors and installation of new basketball hoops, the prom was unable to be held during the summer of 2007. The earliest and most available time for the prom is unfortunately the summer of 2009.

This move of the Junior Prom date and location has upset many current juniors. “I was so excited for prom,” says junior Diane Alvites. “I already bought my dress and everything, but I’m afraid it will go out of style by 2009.” Also, since many students will have gone away to college by 2009, getting back to South San Francisco for prom poses a difficult problem. “I’m planning on going to Russia to study abroad,” says junior Kate Espiritu. “I don’t think I’ll be able to make it back, but I already bought my bid. What a waste of $165!”

Junior Class President Priscilla Ting tells students, “[The junior class officers] are extremely sorry for the conflicts, but since we now have two more years to plan we will do our best to make sure that this prom will be the best ever!”
