Kayleigh Cook and Amanda Wilkison, Laramie High School seniors, were the November Rotary Students.

Kayleigh is involved in many activities. They include Debate, Spanish Honors Society, Ballet, Jazz and Multicultural Group. She also works is a volunteer at the Hospice of Laramie.

Her aspiration is to major in International Relations with minors in French and Spanish. She also would like to continue her ballet training in college and to go abroad to Spain, France and Belgium.

In her first Rotary meeting she timidly said, “ I have no idea what’s going on!” However, when she left her opinion was another.” I’m excited! I want to learn something about Rotary and the members of the community of Laramie.”

Amanda has been involved in many activities as the Laramie Choice, RYLA, Peer Helpers, Youth Group, Varsity Golf Team, Girls State, Hurricane Katrina Fundraising and also Honor Role.

In the future she wants to pursue a medical career and be a pediatrician or a doctor overseas. At the moment she is looking at a variety of universities.

She is also very excited about the meetings and after the first one she said: “ I love Rotary! I hope to learn some new things and meet some good role models from our community.”

Each month the Laramie Rotary Club honors two seniors from the LHS to attend weekly Rotary meetings every Thursday, during lunch. The selection process is based on the student’s extra-curricular activities, leadership abilities and academic achievement.

At the end of the year, one Junior Rotarian will receive a one-year full tuition scholarship to the University of Wyoming. The purpose of the program, according to a Rotary member, is to foster and recognize leadership of young adults.
