Despite
her wacky costumes and out-of-the-ordinary videos, Lady Gaga has a
talent that can not be denied with her “jazzy” voice and dynamic
presence. However, her highly anticipated album, “Born This Way,” which
was released May 23, is a little disappointing. Each track has the
potential to be great, however, over half of them fall short.
Gaga
introduces this album with her single “Born This Way,” which is an
upbeat track with an echoing message. The song calls people to love
themselves and each other despite their sexual orientation or skin
color.
The
album “Born This Way” is packed full of biblical references. Gaga’s
next released single “Judas” is just the beginning. In “Judas,” which
has a catchy beat and is fun to listen to, Gaga talks about the
tug-of-war between Jesus and Judas on her soul. The song has become
quite controversial because of the incorporation of religion.
“Born
This Way,” “Judas,” “The Edge of Glory,” “You and I” and “Hair” are the
best songs on the album. The others are promising and there are moments
that make you tap your feet. However, they do not follow through and
you quickly want to skip to another song.
“Marry
the Night” is one of those songs that starts off nice, but then breaks
down into a fast dance song and falls through. Most of her slow songs,
like “Fashion of His Love,” also break down into boring ‘80s-type
music. In “Highway Unicorn (Road to Love),” the words are almost
indecipherable beneath all that bass.
The album has no organization and it’s clear that Gaga just threw together songs that she “thought” sounded good.
“Born
This Way” has a few really good songs, so if you’re a Gaga fan, it may
be worth buying. If you’re not, then it’s better to buy the singles on
iTunes.
