The romantic comedy “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” based on the New York Times bestselling book, is a movie about five couples’ experiences with their impending pregnancy and parenthood.
In the movie, Holly (Jennifer Lopez), a high-energy baby photographer, and her husband Alex (Rodrigo Santoro), want to adopt a baby since they can’t have one of their own. Wanting Alex to be prepared for fatherhood, Holly sends him to a “dude’s club” where men talk about fatherhood.
Meanwhile, Wendy (Elizabeth Banks), an author of “how to” baby books, and her husband, Gary (Ben Falcone), are surprised to find out that they will be having a baby just as Gary’s father, Ramsey (Dennis Quaid) and young new stepmother, Skylar (Brooklyn Decker), tell them the news about their pregnancy as well.
Marco (Chace Crawford) and Rosie (Anna Kendrick) deal with an unexpected pregnancy after running into each other and hooking up.
Jules (Cameron Diaz), an energetic celebrity trainer and her dancer husband, Evan (Matthew Morrison), have always wanted a baby, but they face the complications of preparing for parenthood and trying to keep up with work.
In “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” each couple goes through different trials when they all find out that they are pregnant, like when Rosie found out that she was pregnant after her brief hook up with Marco. There are also very funny parts in the movie like in the scenes when Alex is in the “dude’s club” and listen to all the dads’ stories.
The romantic comedy is a great movie for families and those who are expecting a baby. The best thing about the movie is that couples can relate to at least one of the couples in the movie. It also gives a realistic glimpse on parenthood and what to expect during pregnancy-- whether it’s planned or unexpected.
