tudent, senior year is a time to discard responsibilities. MHS senior Kristen Kearney, however, has a different viewpoint.
Kearney has qualified for State in five forensics events. These include informative speech, oration, foreign and domestic extemporaneous speaking and prose.
Kearney practices forensics daily. Such commitment is required to obtain her set goals.
“My goals for state would be to take first in at least one of my events and to help the team take first overall,” Kearney said.
Kearney has ambitions for the rest of the year as well.
“I’m hoping to qualify for Nationals in oration, and to do well at Nationals,” Kearney said.
Kearney feels that more has been gained than trophies.
“My four years of forensics have given me a lot of confidence. I’ve learned how to speak effectively in front of people and to perform well under pressure,” Kearney said.
