Ten years ago on September 11th, the United States was literally struck with terror when 19 hijackers boarded four planes with intentions of killing as many American citizens as possible. Sadly, the the World Trade Center in New York City was reduced to dust; the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia was severely damaged, Flight 93 passengers bravely overpowered the terrorists  and the plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania , 3,000 citizens that lost their lives due to this tragic event.

The United States of America has forever been changed because of the attack on 9\11.  Not only have we come together as a country to overcome this tragedy but the government is taking major precautions so that this will never occur again.

A memorial in remembrance to the victims of 9\11 and the 6 victims from the bombing of the Twin towers in 1993 has been built where the towers used to stand. The two one-acre pools include the largest manmade waterfalls in North America and all of the victims names engraved around them. They will be there forever so that not one person that was killed on that horrific day will ever be forgotten.

As far as security goes to prevent terrorist attacks from happening again, the government has really tightened their belts. Airports now have a much more strict policy on what you may or may not take onto the plane. For example, any liquids taken on a plane must be in a three ounce container and sealed in a one gallon zip lock bag.  They also have more thorough inspection of the passengers before they board the aircraft. Some passengers complain saying that the searches are too intrusive and unnecessary. But that’s the cost that it takes to prevent the wrong people from getting on a plane and making advances on terrorism.

As a citizen I believe that our country has come together drastically to solve this problem of terrorism,  I also think that our country’s pride and morale has increased since the incident.

America is still fighting for our freedom overseas 10 years later and we will continue to do so until the point is made that, despite of all the damage and the lives lost, the United States will always remain unified and strong forever.
