After watching a great movie at the United Artists Theater in La Cañada, many students love the idea of treating themselves to a mocha at Starbucks located in the same plaza.

But anyone who is a regular at the U.A. knows that making a coffee order can be quite annoying with the large group of junior high students who always make it difficult to sit quietly around a table and have a conversation.

So for those high school students who are looking for a way to grab a bite after watching Denzel Washington in Deja Vu or laughing through Borat with the hilarious Sacha Baron Cohen, don’t look too far.

Café Sole, only a few steps away from the theater, is a small family-owned Italian restaurant that provides a quiet and comfortable atmosphere. Even the exterior is beautiful with a tastefully constructed white fence oustide.

Despite its small interior, Café Sole offers great variety. Fans of Italian cuisine will appreciate the authentic Italian dishes that Café Sole provides for its customers.

On the menu, you’ll find a soup of the day, antipasti, several salads, over a dozen pasta preparations, an array of pizza possibilities, three enormous calzones and six different chicken dishes.

The prices are reasonable as well. In fact, a majority of the entrees are under $10 and nothing on the menu is over $12.95.

My friend, senior Melody Holmes, and I had the privilege of eating one of their calzones, Calzone Americana.

While waiting for our food, we admired the casual Italian/American style décor that gives the restaurant its homey feel. The walls were covered with vintage photographs and paintings of Italian families and traditional scenery.

When our calzones arrived, our mouths dropped open in surprise at the mountain of dough stuffed with grilled chicken, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and vegetable sauce.

At that moment we realized why the waitress was so hesitant to bring us the bread that we requested after giving her our order.

Unlike many restaurants, Café Sole provides both quality and quantity. Every bite we took had all the delicious flavors of each of the fresh ingredients.

And while eating our meal we did not experience a single dull moment, mainly because of the waiters’ and waitresses’ conversations. In fact, Café Sole employees make all of the customers feel right at home.

Unfortunately, there was no room in our stomachs for anything sweet, so we had to decline their very tempting offer of dessert, which included ice cream, their very own tiramisu, and an assortment of other desserts.

Café Sole perfectly complements the traditional dinner and movie. The terrific service, food, and calm setting make the eatery a great option for an after movie meal.
