He is known as the energetic guy with the washboard abs and a huge purple lightning painted across his chest during pep rallies. Lightning Man tries to bring pride, hope, and confidence into students’ hearts, awakening the team spirit.
Senior Lucien Adderley, the Lightning Man, is part of the drama magnet program. However, that’s not all he does. He acts, pantomimes, dances, raps, sings, and writes his own songs. During his free time he shakes his booty along side the band at the home football games.
Although he livens up the pep rallies, administrators are trying to get rid of our mascot.
Last year, during a pep rally, 15 uninvited students joined Lightning Man onto center court. Shirtless, they danced alongside Lightning Man, causing chaos in the gymnasium.
Administrators are discussing the termination of the mascot.
“Whatever it takes to keep the students under control during the pep rally will be done,” Activities Director Gersie Arnold said. “If that means eliminating Lightning Man, then it will have to be done.”
But Adderley does not seem too concerned. He continues to practice with drama students for upcoming pep rallies. Most of the skits they perform have a common theme of a normal kid overcoming all odds and transforming into Lightning Man, finishing with “The Lightning Man Pose.”
Adderley loves performing at the pep rallies and at football games. He feeds off the energy of the crowd.
“The more the audience gives me, the more I give back to the audience,” he said.
Lightning Man will appear at the fall sports pep rally, even if the administrators are out to get him.
