On Thursday May 31 and June 1, the New Media Academy (NMA) will host its first ever Venice Film Festival. It will take place in the auditorium with a period- by-period assembly. The film festival will premiere short films created by NMA seniors.

Through NMA film classes, students have created different films on given topics but for the film festival, students were free to choose their own topic and genre. This assignment also serves as students' final project and grade for the semester.

NMA seniors have been working in groups creating, directing, and acting out their own short films for the past month. Each group member chose a specific job on or off- camera. All groups have a director, screen writer and actors.

One group is filming a parody of "Jersey Shore." Members in the group are Adriana Banuelos, Diana Mendoza, Judith Martinez, Gilbert Bravo, Monica Morales, and Leslie Pine. After having filmed serious videos throughout the year, the group decided to create a funny film to entertain other students.

"I like this film project because it's fun, but at the same time, we do work really hard," comments Adriana Banuelos.

Not all films will be parodies though. Seniors have been working on a variety of films from comedy to drama and more serious subjects. Admission will be free to students and staff wishing to attend to the film festival.
