The week of October 11th was the annual spirit week at Morris Hills. Monday was Pajama Day, Tuesday was Western Day, Wednesday was Mix-match day, Thursday was Jersey Shore Day and Friday was Class Color Day. Among the student body there was a mixed reaction toward the selection for the spirit week days. Some freshmen thought that the days were all great and were excited to dress up each day. Freshman, Mackenzie Hestevold said, “Spirit week was a lot of fun! I dressed up every day!” Senior Aly Slezak agreed and said she “dressed up for the days when she didn’t have her GT”.

Even though some students enjoyed the spirit days, not as many students participated as hoped, secretary of the senior class, Veronica McClain said. On Wednesday which was mix-match day, the participant rate was low. On Wednesday, senior Chris Perruso was asked why he wasn’t mix-matched, and he replied that he “didn’t feel like going the whole day being mix-matched”. He was not alone in that thought; a majority of the school failed to participate that day. Even though Wednesday was not a hit, Thursday which was Jersey Shore day, had a lot more student participation. The most popular looks on Thursday were the Snooki look-alikes and the Pauly D impersonators who looked like they came out of the TV show. Even though the MTV show Jersey Shore, is a favorite amongst the students here at Morris Hills, Veronica McClain wishes “more of the whole student body participated throughout the whole week!”

What should the SGA do to get more students to participate? Max Audelo, senior class treasurer said that “If any students have good ideas for spirit week, they should come up to any member of the SGA and tell us so we can discuss it at our next meeting” SGA members said that they want everyone to like the days chosen for spirit week and want everyone to participate. Hopefully there will be a spirit week in the spring and more days that students will like and would want to participate.

Friday was the Battle of the Classes, and despite the cold weather conditions the seniors beat the juniors in the tug-of-war twice! The seniors were able to stay on top and win the Battle of the Classes despite their loss in the hall decorating contest.  In an upset, the sophomore class was named the hall decorating contest winner.  Spirit week still remains to be a highlight of the school year.
