WHS students now have the opportunity to share their love of writing by participating in a school writing club.

The writing club meets after school each Thursday in the back of the WHS library to participate in writing activities and to work on their monthly publication, the Coriander.

The Coriander is a newsletter in which WHS writers can share their own poems, short stories and drawings. Each issue contains poems of the month, personal writing submitted by students and a writing game called Monkey Hut.

The co-editors of the publication are librarian Kerri Smith and senior Alysha Weiler. All are welcome to attend the meetings, but even students who do not attend the meetings are invited to submit writings or drawings. Students that wish to contribute to The Coriander should turn submissions into the drawer next to the Academic Round Table or e-mail them to coriander_whs@yahoo.com.

Sophomore Britany Thomas, a member of the club, said the Coriander also gives students the opportunity to explore possible career paths.

“You get more feedback from people and it lets you know if you want to go into the field of writing when you are older,” Thomas said.

Copies of the Coriander can be picked up in the library near the Academic Round Table.
