Two years ago the Sri Lankan electronic/hip-hop artist M.I.A. burst onto the music scene with her first album “Arular.” The album blended electronic melodies and powerful bass lines with an organic, worldly sound straight from M.I.A.’s Sri Lankan and Indian background. “Arular” was a success that hip-hop fans, electronic enthusiasts and even pop music lovers flocked to with such hits as “Galang” and “Bucky Done Gone.”

But M.I.A. was not going to stop with one album (as amazing as it was). As her new song “Bamboo Banger” goes, “M.IA.’s comin’ back with power!”--and she has with her phenomenal new album “Kala.”

The first track instantly hits you with M.I.A.’s passionate vocals and a bass line that makes you feel like you’re standing in the middle of a hot European club, but has rhythms and samples that could easily be found in a tribal nation.

As hard as you may find it, try not to get lost in just M.I.A.’s unique sound. M.I.A.’s lyrics speak of the political turmoil and the poverty she saw growing up in Sri Lanka and India; yet she somehow manages to do all this without being blatant or by bringing down the mood of the song.

I highly recommend M.I.A.’s new album “Kala” to anyone who is looking for some truly original dance music. No, I take that back. I recommend M.I.A. to everyone.
