The UCLA organized Global Leadership Connection has recognized several high school students worthy of earning scholarships on behalf of their leadership skills and potential. Among the winners are three of Univeristy High school’s own, Abdul Gieballa, Sierra Wiley, and Ayesha Sheik. The Global Leadership Connection was started by Carole Harder, an inspirational speaker who travels across the country while spreading her messages through productivity and management seminars. The goal of the GLC was and still is to bring high school students together in a program that focuses on develpoping and enhancing leadership skills. The Global Leadership Connection brings high school students from schools all across the city to UCLA, in order to give the students an opportunity to develop leadership skills and confidence. Over the course of three days, these select juniors turned in applications and essays, took part in personal interviews, and attended leadership meetings about character building and ethics. After this intensive process, the program selected ten winners to receive $100 scholarships, two to four students who receive 500 dollar scholarships, two Global Leadership Connection Youth Leader of the Year, one male one female, who earn $1000 scholarships to the colleges of their choice. The two grand prize winners also received an all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the final event, the Global Leadership Experience. Abdul Gieballa was one of the two Youth Leaders of the Year. He will represent the entire program alongside a second member. He will also visit Washington, D.C. with the other winner for further involvement in leadership based meetings and seminars. Along with Abdul’s achievement, Sierra Wiley and Ayesha Shiek, juniors at Uni, received the $100 scholarships in recognition of their stellar participation. “It was an incredible opportunity,” says Sierra, “I am so grateful I was able to take part in the Global Leadership Connection program.” The success of these students will hopefully encourage more Uni students to participate and join the program. As of right now, the winners will enjoy the scholarship money they have earned and continue being leaders in their community.
