Rapping teacher took place April 30 at the Grove at lunch. With the help of leadership and stage tech, students Michelle Balingit, Melissa Pineda and Vladimir Pak created this event to show that teachers can be just as lively as students. After asking the teachers personally, the participants were chosen. Teachers Brooke Soles, Tania Mercado, Jack Morgan, Stuart Odori, and Kahlil Sabbagh paired up and performed in this entertaining contest. After each performance, students took a vote to decide who was the most inventive rapper. Winner Odori, commented, “My rapping partner Mr. Morgan talked me into it. It was a fun experience and everyone had a good time. I give my congratulations to all the participants.” Morgan, the other winning teacher, stated, “I think it was awesome due to the excellent performances by Mr. Sabbagh, Ms. Soles, and Ms. Mercado. I will do it next year only if Mr. Takagaki agrees to be my hypeman.” Participant Brooke Soles shared her experience saying, “I decided to do the rapping teacher because not only did I want to support Ms. Mercado, but I wanted to channel the voices of my students and give a rap from their perspective. I would definitely do it again next year.” Even though there were some technical difficulties during the development of the event, in the end it was very successful. Students enjoyed watching their teachers rap and dance around the Grove. Junior Alexa Del Rosario adds, “It was fun watching the teachers rap. Also it was nice to see teachers actually involved in the school activities.” Students were also surprised that teachers showed imagination in their raps. “I had a lot of fun and I think that all the teachers were really creative!” says senior Iqra Farooq. Students in charge are working on making this an annual event. It was done last year and hopefully will continue for the next few years.
